Coaching

I started “coaching” in 2000 when barely anyone heard of the concept as a way to unleash personal potential.  Having played sports my whole life, I knew that I really owed any significant success achieved on the field to the professional skills of coaches including Bob Waterman,Terry Burke and Joe Spilewski.

I currently have this picture of Coach Spilewski from the Thanksgiving Day game in 1981 on my credenza and look at it every day.    It reminds me that no matter the obstacle and the current score, victory is still possible.  Great coaches make that possible both on the sports field and on the fields of business, non-profit and family leadership.

True champions in leadership also realize they can unleash their best potential and the potential of their team through both being coached – and by coaching their own team. Coaching is the best way I know to both increase profits, while at the same time building team morale and making the job of leading both purposeful and pleasurable.  It also the best way to develop new leaders and to release innovation and creativity in those who will shape our future and open the new ways of doing things.

I also see the future of the financial industry being merged with coaching over the coming years as those with coaching gifts link with the strategic financial managers to not just “sell” people financial products, but coach them to

  1.  Envision and plan their future and
  2.  Solve their key financial problems (including overspending and debt!)
  3. Allocate their assets and invest “on purpose” to fund their dream and protect what they value most.

That process takes BOTH coaching skills AND financial knowledge and planning skills.

As a coach, my greatest victory is seeing people unleash their best talents and live their dreams.  Ultimately the most important paycheck I get creating leaders who lead leaders.  Changing the world one dream at a time!
